In the summer months, it is important to recognize the benefits of mental health treatment. While it might be tempting to let children and adolescents enjoy the break from school without the pressure of academic and social demands – it is crucial not to neglect their mental health needs during this time. It is important to remember that a change in routine, lack of structure, or anticipation of the upcoming school year can be challenging for children and adolescents who struggle with anxiety and depression. All children, teens and tweens will benefit even more from treatment when they are not disturbed with other stressors such as school, extracurricular activities, and social pressures. Working on repairing and building skills over the summer will help children return to school in the fall feeling more confident and prepared to tackle the challenges ahead. Prioritizing a child’s mental health needs will help ensure the child has a healthy and enjoyable summer season and upcoming school year!
